Wexham Park Hospital (WPH) is a district general hospital in Slough – just outside of the M25 and due West of London. It hosts orthopaedic speciality trainees from the North West Thames and Oxford rotations. It has an excellent reputation for training, including interactive trauma meetings and no shortage of opportunities to operate under supervision in elective and trauma lists.
WPH’s tertiary referral centre for major trauma, bone cancer, bone infection and neurosurgery is the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. WPH has its own orthopaedic spinal service, though injuries and pathologies of the hand are managed by the Plastic Surgery department.
At senior level, there is a mix of experienced and international fellowship-trained consultants (including an FRCS examiner and an FRCS Gold medallist), recently appointed consultants, and post-CCT fellows in Knee and Foot & Ankle Surgery. At registrar level, there is a mix of speciality trainees and senior clinical fellows. At junior level, there is one Core Trainee, alongside FY1s and FY2s.
Trauma surgery and fracture clinics run at Wexham Park Hospitals. Elective surgery is mostly performed at Heatherwood Hospital (in Ascot), while elective clinics are spread between Heatherwood Hospital, King Edward VII Hospital (in Windsor) and Upton Hospital (in Slough).
